General purpose soybean

Beyond breeding for yield and maturity, the UMN Soybean Breeding program routinely screens for resistance to iron deficiency chlorosis, soybean cyst nematode resistance, Phytophthora root rot, and brown stem rot. All commodity-type soybeans are screened for protein, oil, fatty acid composition, and amino acid composition.

We work with researchers in fields such as plant pathology, entomology, agronomy, and genomics to discover genes and/or introduce newly discovered favorable alleles or biotech events into elite adapted germplasm.
